Most shops open on Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 2pm and then
open between 5pm and 8pm. they close between 2pm and 5pm for the
traditional 'siesta'. This is usually the same on a Saturday but some
smaller shops in smaller towns and villages may not open after the
siesta.
As in the UK though, major supermarkets and shopping centres usually
stay open all day between 10am to 9pm or even 10pm.
Shops generally don't open on a Sunday even though a new law was passed
this year to allow Sunday trading within Madrid.
Lunch is usually served from 1pm to 4pm and dinner from 8pm to 11pm. Note how this fits with the traditional 'siesta'. As usual though, within tourist areas you should be able to get food at any time of the day or night.
Most bars and clubs open during similar times to the UK. Expect Bars to open until Around 11pm and Clubs until 3am or later.
Generally, Banks in Spain open between 9am and 2pm Monday to Friday, and some open between 9am and 1pm Saturday.
City Hall, Libraries, Government health centres etc. Are usually open between 9am and 2pm Monday to Friday.
